- The Best LA Restaurants For Pasta

The creamy, ricotta-filled pasta tubes in this dish are mixed with garlicky pork sausage, then topped with a luxurious serving of shaved black truffles. You’ll cycle through feelings of love, passion, and joy while eating this $45 pasta dish, which is more than we can say about eating most other pasta dishes in town. Piccolo is a beloved Italian joint located in Venice's popular Abbot Kinney neighborhood. The modern interior features a sleek marble bar top and minimalistic decor, but the covered patio with bistro tables is where you'll want to sit on a sunny LA day.

That said, getting in can be pretty difficult, and you'll definitely want to make a reservation beforehand. The restaurant does not skimp on the truffles with this dish, and they soar when tossed in 36-month-old Parmigiano Reggiano. If you're looking to order a few different dishes, the truffle pasta can easily be split between two people. Ospi's spicy rigatoni alla vodka is a hearty portion that boasts a beautiful red color, al dente noodles, and a cheesy crumble on top. Enjoy it as your entree or share it with the table and order a variety of other bites.

The sauce was excellent and had the perfect amount of meat and tomato, and the portion was ideal for one person. If you’re thinking of ordering a pizza, you might want to bring someone with you. I had the Fusili Pasta with the pesto sauce and, what can I say? I love the vegan pesto sauce from Trader Joe’s but boy… this was pesto sauce to another level!!

There’s also a handy tasting of a starter, three pastas, and dessert, in case one bowl of food just feels too simple. Another great pesto pasta comes from none other than Jon & Vinny's. With 4 locations around Los Angeles, the pesto radiatori is never too far from LA locals. Though Jon & Vinny's is most popular for pizza, the pastas shouldn't be overlooked. This creamy, green dish is topped with fresh pecorino, and the portion size is pretty generous. Since all the pasta is always made in-house, quality and freshness are guaranteed.

Seriously, once you get into the habit of eating handmade pasta, eating dry pasta will seem lackluster. For the life of me, I could not believe that this place was vegan! Pura Vita is the first 100% plant-based Italian restaurant and wine bar in the US.

The main motivation behind Funculo, is that he wanted to make high-quality pasta dishes affordable for everyone. Not only was the pasta heavenly good but it was extremely filling. The spicy pomodoro at this Italian spot in West Adams might just be our favorite pasta we’ve ever eaten in LA.

The restaurant’s menu brings together Mexican and Italian flavors with an outstanding selection of original pasta dishes. The signature elote agnolotti is filled with corn and cotija cheese and finished with housemade Tajin and finger limes. The huitlacoche cacio pepe melds the Roman classic with earthy corn smut and a 63-degree egg.

You’ll notice this creamy bowl of pecorino-topped tonnarelli on almost every table in the restaurant, and for good reason. Zack Pollack’s cherished neighborhood trattoria Alimento successfully weaves a California mentality with Italian flavors and cooking techniques. The rowdy dining room boasts albacore crudo and chicken liver crostone to start, and then a radicchio Caesar salad dusted generously with parmesan cheese. Most people will split the pastas, like casarecce with tomato, basil, and burrata. Ten years after opening, Alimento has no reason not to expect another decade of service in Silver Lake given its popularity. In more modern times, restaurants like Valentino, Peppone, and Angelini Osteria introduced more upscale Italian food with chefs at the forefront.
Fresh, hand-made noodles are a must, and thankfully, every quality Italian joint in LA knows this. When you go to the restroom, you will have to walk through the kitchen, where you will see a huge countertop with mounds of dough and a big pasta machine. Most of you reading this will be shocked to know that LA has its own Little Italy.
The Hollywood location has a romantic patio ideal for enjoying pizza under the stars, but the pastas also manage to shine. Angelini Osteria has been one of the best Italian restaurants in LA since it opened in 2001. This classic, consistent eatery won the hearts of locals immediately and it's easy to see why.
Speaking of pastas, the piccola luna is a sweet and savory dish you won't soon forget. Though this is undoubtedly the best pasta dish on the menu, the lobster fettuccine is another favorite that pays homage to Jemma Di Mare's seafood-centric menu. Finally, the tableside ice cream sundae is a non-negotiable order. Have your sundae topped with everything from pistachio sauce to fresh whipped cream, then let your tastebuds take flight. Jemma Di Mare, owned by the same group as Ospi, is a Brentwood newcomer that celebrates all things culinary.
The half-dozen primi include classics like cacio e pepe and ricotta-stuffed ravioli with butter and sage, along with pricier items like the lobster linguine in tomato sauce. The tonnarelli al tartufo e salsiccia rings in at nearly $40, but with fresh truffles and a sausage tomato sauce, it might just be worth it. Jame Enoteca is under the same ownership as Ospi, and the pasta is every bit as delicious. Though squid ink may seem adventurous, it is essentially flavorless; it simply gives the pasta a beautiful black color. That said, the squid ink bavette is a must-order when dining at Jame Enoteca.
With two locations on the Westside, Forma has become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike looking to cure their craving for Italian cuisine by the beach. Though the Santa Monica location is the original, the Venice location is just as popular, and both serve up some amazing food. Though this dish is best enjoyed fresh, you can also buy a jar of the sauce to take home so you can create your own rendition whenever the craving strikes.
I remember going there in February and sitting down on a beautiful sunny day indulging in his delicious homemade pasta. Next time you’re on the Venice Beach boardwalk in need of a bite, head over to Fabio’s Pasta. Many people will scoff at the thought of finding good food in such a touristy spot, but Fabio defies all the naysayers.
In addition to the original location on Beverly Boulevard, Angelini Osteria has opened in Pacific Palisades, making it easier for Westsiders to get their fix. Restaurants mainly focused on pizza are another subject altogether, but I am slipping in Angelini Osteria from our 101 Hall of Fame roster. It’s worth scanning the whole list for enduringly excellent dining options across the region.
